ABOUT

My name is Richard Stephan Toman.  I have been carving and sculpting as Sonrise Woodcarving Studio since 1986 when my hobby of bird carving morphed into a full-time profession.  When the real estate crash of 2008 and then Hurricane Sandy sealed the fate of my architectural carving work in the Northeast, we relocated South and I’ve been a creative artist since.

My gallery page includes photos of some of my past projects and will give you some idea of the range and quality of my creative work.  I am still doing “chainsaw” style carvings, though I am limiting myself to smaller sized projects because I’ve aged out and physically can’t manage the big stuff.

If you are looking for something unique for your yard, garden, or home, then I may be able to create it for you.  My motto is “My offerings are limited only by your imagination”, so if you have an idea for something unusual please share it with me.  I have rarely found a subject that I have not been able to turn into a sculpture.
